Series 2 of Digital Learning Governance for School Boards

The Future-Ready Experience builds on the Foundations Experience and advances school board members from foundational understanding of digital learning systems to the governance questions that now define the work: artificial intelligence, data and privacy, professional learning and change, and evaluation for the long term. Series 2 is designed to stand on its own. Completing Series 1 is helpful, but not required. Together, the two experiences form a connected governance journey from digital learning literacy to future-ready oversight. Beyond Technology Implementation Digital Learning Governance for School Boards focuses on governance, stewardship, accountability, and oversight rather than day-to-day technology administration. Participants examine how digital learning systems function and how effective boards ask informed questions about purpose, equity, instructional quality, transparency, and sustainability. Designed for School Board Members Created specifically for local school board members, this experience emphasizes reflection, governance application, and practical oversight considerations that can strengthen board service immediately. The focus is not on using the tools, but on governing the conditions those tools create for students, staff, families, and public trust. Guided by the LEADS Framework Every module is grounded in the LEADS Framework, providing a consistent structure for analyzing challenges, strengthening coherence, and guiding intentional governance decisions over time. A Connected Governance Journey Participants may complete the Foundations Experience as a standalone experience or continue through the larger Digital Learning Governance for School Boards suite exploring: • Artificial intelligence leadership in P-12 education • Data governance, privacy, cybersecurity, and trust • Professional learning and change management • Governance, evaluation, and future-ready planning

Govern Emerging Technologies with Purpose

Develop a stronger capacity to oversee artificial intelligence and other emerging tools by asking how they serve learning, equity, integrity, and the district’s stated purpose.

Strengthen Data, Privacy, and Cybersecurity Stewardship

Examine how boards monitor data practices, privacy commitments, and cybersecurity readiness as matters of public trust—not solely as technical compliance.

Ask Better Governance Questions

Learn how informed boards use evaluation, professional learning conditions, and planning structures so digital learning efforts endure beyond a single initiative, vendor, or leadership transition.

About the learning experience

Artificial intelligence, expanded data systems, and continuous change now sit among the most consequential responsibilities entrusted to local boards of education. Effective governance requires board members to understand why these conditions matter, how they intersect with instruction and equity, and how board decisions influence students, schools, communities, and long-term district sustainability. This Governance Application Experience helps school board members develop a practical understanding of future-ready digital learning governance while strengthening their capacity for informed oversight and stewardship. Through concise video segments, guided reflection, governance application activities, and professional dialogue, participants move beyond awareness of emerging technologies toward applying a governance lens to real issues facing local school districts—including AI use, data and privacy, professional culture, evaluation, and planning under uncertainty. As participants progress through the experience, they complete a series of structured reflections and governance applications that are compiled into a downloadable Governance Reflection Journal. The journal serves as an ongoing professional resource, capturing insights, questions, and governance considerations that can inform future board service. Participants conclude the experience with: * A deeper understanding of future-ready digital learning governance * Greater familiarity with board oversight of AI, data and privacy, professional learning culture, and evaluation * A LEADS-based governance analysis of a local future-ready digital learning issue * An initial implementation strategy * A downloadable Professional Development Certificate of Completion * A downloadable reflective leadership journal

How the Experience Works

Participants move from digital learning understanding to informed governance through a structured process of reflection, analysis, application, and stewardship. Video → Reflect → Apply → Integrate → Governance Application → Dialogue
