Digital Learning Governance for School Boards
Module I serves as the foundation for the Strategic Leadership for Digital Learning (SLDL) series. This experience introduces leaders to the concepts of vision, coherence, digital stewardship, and leadership responsibility that frame the broader learning journey. Beyond Technology Implementation Digital Learning Governance for School Boards focuses on governance, stewardship, accountability, and oversight rather than day-to-day technology administration. Participants examine how digital learning systems function and how effective boards ask informed questions about purpose, equity, instructional quality, transparency, and sustainability. Designed for School Board Members Created specifically for local school board members, this experience emphasizes reflection, governance application, and practical oversight considerations that can strengthen board service immediately. Guided by the LEADS Framework Every module is grounded in the LEADS Framework, providing a consistent structure for analyzing challenges, strengthening coherence, and guiding intentional governance decisions over time. A Connected Governance Journey Participants may complete the Foundations Experience as a standalone experience or continue through the larger Digital Learning Governance for School Boards suite exploring: • Artificial intelligence leadership in P-12 education • Data governance, privacy, cybersecurity, and trust • Professional learning and change management • Governance, evaluation, and future-ready planning

About the learning experience
Digital learning is one of the most important responsibilities entrusted to local boards of education. Effective governance requires board members to understand why digital learning initiatives exist, how those systems operate, and how digital decisions influence students, schools, communities, and long-term district sustainability. This Governance Application Experience helps school board members develop a practical understanding of digital learning governance while strengthening their capacity for informed oversight and stewardship. Through concise video segments, guided reflection, governance application activities, and professional dialogue, participants move beyond understanding digital learning concepts toward applying a governance lens to real issues facing local school districts. As participants progress through the experience, they complete a series of structured reflections and governance applications that are compiled into a downloadable Governance Reflection Journal. The journal serves as an ongoing professional resource, capturing insights, questions, and governance considerations that can inform future board service. Participants conclude the experience with: * A deeper understanding of vision, drift, and leadership responsibility * A completed systems analysis of their own context * A LEADS-based leadership action * An initial implementation strategy * A downloadable Professional Development Certificate of Completion * A downloadable reflective leadership journal
